Weather (What to Expect)
Cancun has a tropical climate — warm year-round with a distinct dry season from December to April and a wetter, more humid season from June to October. Peak tourist season (often sunnier & drier) tends to be December–April. Rainy periods can bring afternoon showers and high humidity. Hurricane season runs roughly June–November.
Tips:
- Pack light, breathable clothing and sun protection.
- Stay hydrated in heat/humidity.
- Check local forecasts before travel and watch for any weather advisories during June–November.
Currency
Tips:
- The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN).
- Paying in pesos gives a better exchange rate than paying in USD or CAD where possible.
- Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are widely accepted in hotels & restaurants; American Express is less universal.
- Carry small peso bills for taxis, tips, market buys & small purchases.
- Avoid exchanging money at the airport booths, which often have poor exchange rates.
Notify your bank before travel to avoid foreign transaction blocks.
Transportation
We will handle all your transportation to/from the airport & to/from appointments. Below are some tips for any transportation needs outside that.
Tips:
- Ubers: Widely available. Fares are set in-app, making it a simple and reliable option.
- Rental Cars: Most major rental companies have locations at the airport.
- ADO buses or shared vans that connect Cancun with Playa del Carmen and Tulum are cost-effective for day trips or excursions.
Transportation
In Mexico, 911 is the official emergency number (for police, fire & medical services).

Transportation
Tipping is a customary part of service culture in Cancun and much of Mexico.
Tips:
- Restaurants: 10–15% of the bill; up to ~20% for excellent service.
- Bars: Small tip per drink or ~10–15% on the tab.
- Housekeeping (hotels): ~40–80 MXN/night.
- Porters / Bellhops: ~30–50 MXN per bag.
- Taxis: Rounding up or a small tip is appreciated.
Tipping in pesos is generally preferred so workers don’t have to exchange foreign cash.
Medical & Treatment Logistics
Why should I stay near the city center instead of the Hotel Zone?
Staying near the city center significantly reduces travel time to the clinic and allows for more flexibility around appointments. The Hotel Zone can involve longer, less predictable commutes due to traffic.
What is included in Immunocine’s transportation service?
Immunocine provides transportation to and from all scheduled clinic appointments. This ensures patients can focus on treatment without needing to coordinate local travel logistics.
Can I change the time of my appointment or adjust my treatment order?
Treatment schedules are carefully coordinated based on your protocol. While minor adjustments may be possible, changes are generally limited to ensure optimal outcomes and coordination of care.
Can my companion attend consultations or procedures?
Yes, companions are welcome to attend consultations. Access to certain procedures may be limited based on medical protocols and space considerations.
Can I receive my clinical test results?
Yes. Your care team will review all relevant results with you and can provide documentation upon request.
Why can’t I travel on the same day as my Leukapheresis or first Pegasys injection?
These procedures can have physiological effects that require monitoring. It is important to remain nearby in case of side effects or follow-up care needs.
What is the weather like in Cancún?
Cancún has a warm, tropical climate year-round. Expect high humidity and temperatures typically ranging from the mid-70s to high-80s°F.
What currency should I use?
The local currency is Mexican Pesos (MXN). While U.S. dollars are accepted in some places, pesos are recommended for ease and better pricing.
How should I handle transportation outside of clinic appointments?
For non-clinic travel, patients typically use Uber or pre-arranged car services. These are widely available and reliable in Cancún.
What emergency numbers should I know?
The general emergency number in Mexico is 911. Your care team will also provide direct contact information for urgent medical needs.
Is Cancún safe for medical travel?
Yes. Patients staying in recommended areas and using standard precautions generally find Cancún safe and comfortable. Immunocine staff can guide you on best practices.
Can I drink tap water?
No. It is recommended to drink only bottled or filtered water during your stay.
Should I tip in Cancún?
Yes. Tipping is customary. Typical ranges are 10–15% at restaurants and small tips for drivers or hotel staff.
Where should I stay?
Immunocine recommends accommodations near the clinic for convenience. Your team can provide suggested hotels that are frequently used by patients.
Are there any dietary restrictions I should follow?
Patients are generally advised to avoid raw or undercooked foods and prioritize clean, well-prepared meals to reduce infection risk.
Can I take over-the-counter medications?
Tylenol (acetaminophen) is typically permitted. Avoid NSAIDs (like ibuprofen or aspirin) unless approved by your care team.
Should I continue taking my supplements?
Some supplements may interfere with treatment. Always review your current regimen with your medical team before continuing.
